MARIETTA, GA – 2016 Thunder LB3 Alum, Jeff Durden captured his first career Patriot League Rookie of the Week for his performance in Navy’s 7-5 win over UMBC on February 17. This makes him the second Thunder LB3 alum to earn this accolade in 2018. In his first season for the Midshipmen, Durden is currently leading the team in ground balls with 10, he also stands atop the Mids’ caused turnovers list.
In last Saturday’s win over UMBC Durden led the Mids’ by grabbing a team-high five ground balls and forcing four turnovers. He played a pivotal role in the defense’s effort in the third and fourth quarters that held UMBC off the scoreboard for more than 15 minutes, while the Mids went on a 3-0 run en route to a 7-5 win.
Durden is Navy’s first-ever defensive player (outside of a goalkeeper) to earn Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors and the 12th different Navy player since to capture the honor since joining the league in 2004.
Durden and Navy return to action on February 24 to face Boston University.
